What Do You Want To See???

We are making a strategy game similar to warcraft 2 by Blizzard Entertainment. Here is an example of the gameplay:

This will be a game from scratch. You have a chance to effect what it will look like. Use this post to send your ideas. What would you like to see in a game like this? What should the setting be, what about the time period? Alternate universe? alien world? Humans against Orcs? Humans against Aliens? Aliens against Orcs...? You can submit your ideas, a plot, graphics... whatever you think might make for a good game. This game will be open source so make sure that whatever you post here can be used in the game.

Questions? Email me at pansa99@gmail.com.

Cheers

  2. A game like that would need someone just as boring to play it. Just kidding! I haven't played warcraft. It's just not my style. But it reminds me of gameboy games. Aside from my tastes, I think the game could use a menu that doesn't take up 35% of the screen and a different angle. Maybe be able to switch views. The sprites aren't bad <3.

When I look for a game, I'm all about graphics. It's the most calming feeling to run through a wonderland of beautiful trees, flowers, and skies with a clash of technology. I drool over a pond of lilies being the crashsite of a spaceship. Or a city like atlantis, if you know what I mean.

Second to graphics is the genre. My favorite are casual games with a ton of leveling xD, but we're not doing an mmo I bet. So a square-enix-y rpg would be nice. No aliens PLEASE.

I can't figure out exactly what to do with this right now. Before I saw the post on what kind of game we were making I was brainstorming small minigames. My sister and I came up with a game called Omegatrix, based of a mode in Audition Online called Beat Rush. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBDeYqteWjk . I was thinking having a high score board for those who keep it up long enough (like make the song get faster).

Mmm so yeah I'm just putting out my thoughts like you wanted. Kinda lost track of where I was. <3 I'll post more soon. -Peace

  3. Real time strategy games, like Warcraft 2 or Dune 2 (Oh my God... i am getting old), can be very challenging and fun when you play online against one or more friends. On the one hand there is the strategy element, trying to beat your opponents by gathering more resources and creating a more powerful force, and on the other hand is the story.

One story that I always wanted to turn into an RTS type of game was an post apocalyptic Earth story. Here is the intro to the game:

It is the year 2067. The Earth's axis shifted violently after a gravitational anomaly that could not be explained by the physics of the time. In just one moment two thirds of the human population was lost. Those who survived lived in chaos with limited supplies of food and drinking water. The winter of 2068 became the coldest winter in human history. Most of the remaining humans did not make it. Those “lucky” few that did, formed tribes in order to survive in this new and hostile world.

In 2079 Robert Heist, a renown scientist from what was now called the Old World, discovered the source and location of the gravitational anomaly that caused the axis shift in the first place. His calculations pointed to Antarctica. Once news of his discovery became known the race to Antarctica was on. Maybe it was human nature to want to know what brought so much destruction to our world, or maybe it was the hope that something so powerful could be used to help us. Whatever the reasons that made us seek the anomaly were, what we found there surprised us all.

    In the game:
You assume the role of one of the Antarctica Expedition's team leaders. Gathering resources is still essential.

One day I might get to write this game... What do you guys think?

  4. Dude I LOVE apocalyptic games/movies. It's so exciting. And Antarctica? <3 Sweet. It always makes me think of Balto, which is an awesome cartoon. What did they find there? Oh the suspense!
It's an awesome idea but im trying to figure out what you'll do along the journey to get to antarctica. And what's going to happen there? A massive battle between yettis and eskimos LOL.

  5. Well an RTS is like... where you build your characters and defense up then fight each other right? I've played games like that. But I don't know how to simplify the leveling and "gathering" until the duel or whatever. Haha I sound like an idiot. Maybe I don't understand RTS well -.-

  6. There doesn't have to be a dual (although I think there will be). The first levels could be about survival. Think of a fusion between an RTS game and one of those virtual pet games. You need to gather resources because your people (team) get hungry, are cold... etc. You need to control the resources against other teams (humans have not learned how to share even after the disaster). Getting to the anomaly could be the first part of the campaign (several levels/maps/scenarios can be produced for this).

After you get there a new objective is revealed to you and the game becomes different. Here is where I would introduce two spiritual races (the concentration of those spirits on Antarctica is what created the anomaly). Here we introduce the seemingly bad and seemingly good spirits/forces. The player will have to select which force they would like to align with (Some people love being the bad guys). Once you make your choice, new technology is available to you. New weapons, abilities and such. The forces you align with are spirits and they cannot fight in our world, but they can fight through you. Both forces make a sales pitch to you. It has to be believable since you will be fighting against the human teams that picked the other side.

  7. What if we named the game Tilted Axis? It has kinda World War 2 sound to it, but I think it sounds good for a game title.

  8. If you're playing with the bad spirit would you be trying to destroy the earth even more? If its something that crazy we could name it Twisted Axis. It's both literal and symbolic.

  9. And by the way, my friend and I can't come tomorrow. He forgot it was his brother's birthday LOL and I'm hanging out with my boyfriend.

  10. I think this idea for a "Tilted Axis" game sounds interesting. Rather than the idea of having some sort of spirits that you align with, I think the idea that you fight aliens that secretly arrived on Earth and caused the axis problem would be more interesting. That way, you can design a unique alien race that would have different abilities than the humans.

  11. Hi Kevin,

The only problem I see with using Aliens is that unless they crashed on Antarctica I do not see how you could balance the alien strength (technologically speaking) versus the humans that have just started rebuilding their civilization.

If they did crash, then it can get more interesting since the Aliens too would be rebuilding their strength and they would be adapting to our world.

    Let me know your thoughts.
